The ALS multi-disciplinary clinic, located at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital/Medical College of Wisconsin, provides individuals with ALS access to services of a team of highly-trained health care professionals who specialize in ALS. On March 21, 2006, ALSA announced that the Clinic had been approved as the country's twenty-sixth ALSA Certified Center.
ALSA selects, certifies and supports distinguished regional institutions recognized as the best in the field with regard to knowledge of and experince with ALS, and which have neurological diagnostics and imaging, and available on-site licensed and certified ancillary services on clinic days.
The Clinic is under the medical direction of Dr. Paul Barkhaus, Neurologist and Professor of Neurology with the Medical College of Wisconsin. Dr. Barkhaus is also the Medical Director of the ALS Clinic at the Veterans Hospital in Milwaukee. Dr. Barkhaus, who specializes in ALS, is a member of the Great Lakes ALS Study Group and is a co-investigator for the IGF (Insulin Growth Factor) clinical drug trial currently underway.
Other members of the Clinic Team include Cedric Dennis, RN - Clinic Nurse Coordinator; Janine Knox, MSW Social Worker; Julie Haase, RD Dietician; Jodi Antinoja, MS, CCC Speech/Swallow Therapist; Chris Wipperman, PT Physical Therapist; Debra Romoren, OT Occupational Therapist; Diane Williams, RT Respiratory Therapist; James Durnil, MDiv - Clinic Chaplain; and Lori Banker-Horner, LPN ALS Chapter Patient Services Coordinator.
